Huseyin Sami’s practice is unique within contemporary Australian art. What is now a characteristic hallmark - his performative rematerialisations of paint - has been developed over many years through careful and unwavering commitment to painting. The results are consistently and conceptually profound, and highly significant contributions to broader conversations in Australian and international painting. Sami has a well-established profile internationally. His work has been curated into many noteworthy exhibitions at instiutions including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney; the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; Artspace, Sydney; and the University Of Iowa Museum of Art, Iowa, to name a few. In 2018, seminal Korean artist Lee Kun-Yong selected Huseyin as one of only four Australian artists to participate collaboratively in his evolving exhibition Equal Area at 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, Sydney. Sami’s work is held in many public and private collections internationally, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, The Art Gallery of Western Australia and the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne.
